This beautiful and durable reeling system provides
versatility for lightweight towfish operations. The unit (as shown) weighs 95 lbs.,
including 100m cable. The "T" handle extends upward for "dolly" type
maneuvering of the reel. A single-point attachment
(wheel-cradle) secures the reel to its tiedown base on deck. The unit quickly and easily
tilts from stowed to "ready" position. The padded "towfish cradle"
secures and protects the towfish during vessel transport. The drive-belt tensioner adjusts
easily with a twist, allows "freewheeling" of towfish to search depth and will
"slip" if towfish is inadvertently snaggedreducing cable damage. A
spooling rate of approximately 60 ft./min. and gentle start/stop provide smooth operation
and good obstacle/bottom avoidance capability. The roller cable-aligner allows even
respooling of cable (which tends to gather in the spool center on a compact reel). The power clamps
onto the 12v or 24v power source and affords simple "up/down" switching control
of towfish. Cables may be quickly and easily changed when necessary. |

The basic
power reel (as shown) was designed for Marine Sonic Technology's "Sea Scan PC"
sidescan sonar system with 100m towfish cable. A larger spool and drive motor was utilized
for MST's 200m cable with weighted towfish and is now in operation with the Minerals
Management Service off the Florida coast. For other manufacturers' lightweight sidescan,
ROV magnetometer, metal detector and drop-camera applications, units can be delivered with
the specific manufacturer's connectors to facilitate a "plug-in" installation
for the power reel purchaser. All reeling systems are warranted for one year against all
defects of materials and specified utility. |
